Process of College Selection

November 15th, 2007 by admin

It is quite hard and continuous process of selecting the college. I collided with this problem several years ago and now I am ready to give some recommendations to the entrants. After narrowing the list to 14 universities by the criteria of good reputation, accreditation and location near big cities, I decided to pass on to the next step.

The following selection depended on the following criteria: funds of the parents, access to the scholarships and grants, abilities to earn the money with the help of on – campus work. There are many websites which contain the full information about the colleges. On these sites entrants can took virtual tour through the universities and examine all facilities they offer. Future students have to pay attention on such abilities as libraries, student government bodies, modern student housing, university events and activities. According to these criteria I narrowed the list up to 5 colleges.

The next step is to consult with the parents. I showed them a list of 5 colleges and asked for help. With the help of parents I narrowed the list up to 3 variants. For parents the main criteria were convenient location, good housing facilities, high quality of education and practical experience of teachers. After discussions with parents I filled in three applications, sent to the entrance examination and waited for the response.

After several weeks of waiting I received three acceptance letters from the colleges. With the help of my parents I decided to visit the colleges before to make the final decision. I needed three days to visit all three college campuses. After visiting of colleges it was quite easy to make the final decision. I chose the University of Texas which was located at Austin. The selecting of the college is very important process for the future career prospects of the person. This process needs a lot of time and efforts, but the result usually justifies the hopes.
